The Photography Show last weekend has come and gone and I have to say, it was quite an experience. Most exhibitions I have been to have been related to the craft of magic. This experience was on a scale bigger than anything I have ever encountered.
The Photography business is booming right now with all the major brands competing for their market share and the line up of products is simply breathtaking. I now understand why I found the subject of photography well and truly overwhelming - there is far too much to absorb and learn.
I went to The Show with one criteria in mind, to learn something as a beginner that would transform my understanding of photography and move beyond the semi-automatic exposure on my beloved D90. I am happy to say that I completed my mission and couldn't be happier.
While browsing, I came across a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, it is truly fantastic.
Just reading the first few chapters since returning home, I can confidently say that I am now a designated shooter in Manual Priority.
Bryan has completely demystified "The Exposure Triangle" in the most simple jargon free language. I was astounded at the response of my camera to some of the exercise Bryan teaches. I am now in practice mode and will be shooting strictly in Manual Priority for the rest of this week on my Camera Walks.

One of the highlights was holding in my hands the Nikon D4s. This is one monster of a camera - a beautiful piece of engineering.
It is heavy and designed for the top flight professionals. I was thinking to myself, the cost of this camera would pay a mortgage for two or three months and gave it back to the Nikon Representative.
I am glad I went to Birmingham because I was able to come away with the feeling that I have everything I need to make great progress for another year before making any consideration about upgrading my camera. I am happy with what I have. My projects inside Photojournalism and Blogging about my Street Walks with my Camera and Traveling will keep me busy for the next 12 months.
Speaking of Traveling, I will be visiting Croatia in the next week so watch out for some great shots coming soon.
Have a great week.
