I just took a walk around my local park to test drive my feelings about purchasing either a 35 mm or 50mm Prime Lens. I used my kit lens from my D90 set up, 18-105mm and set the lens alternately from 35 and 50mm between shots.
This was an interesting exercise in composing shots, using my feet to "zoom in" a little closer to my subject as seen in the Rose image.

I saw an interesting video on Yout Tube earlier today about the composition of shots which I thought was very useful. I thought I would challenge myself to see if I could discover anything interesting about the neighborhood I live in and capture some interesting shots.
I still have my original Canon 35 mm Camera from my days of shooting 35mm film. I have come to appreciate the value of thinking about my shots before pressing the shutter. Digital media can make for "lazy" photography, something I want to avoid. Just like a great piece of magic, the effect begins in the mind first and is then translated through the medium of playing cards, coins or a camera, that's the real magic.
