The main town centre is called Leirvik and lies on the southern tip of Stord. It is home to a spectacular harbour. Vibrant and colourful, full of life combined with natures gift. What an amazing place to live. The weather was perfect and created the light that was just great for me to create these images. Although it was around lunchtime, my camera found the light perfect. With a low ISO, the images came out sharp and vibrant. I was using my Nikon D750 along with the perfect Travel Lens the 28-300mm, I found this lens perfect for the shooting I did throughout this trip in spite of the fact that I also and the classic 24-70mm with me.
There is something very peaceful about Norway, each time I visit, I feel even more at home. There is a spiritual energy here that speaks to me. I discovered on this trip the Fjord means 'of the ocean". The country is if full of small islands as the ocean weaves in and out of the pockets of land mass. it is on these island that Norwegians have made their homes and it is a stunning site to see.
The images below communicate how life at see was important to the people of Stord. In spite of age, I could sense life and contribution, a ships anchor, bell weight and propeller all part of life on a ship. The plant image frames the two ships fork a compelling composition. Life on store caters to all, these three little birds look very much at home, at peace on their perch.
The transportation of Norway is a combination Planes, Automobiles, bus service and significantly, Ferries. The pockets of islands are connected by a fascinating Ferry services. I travelled to Stord from Bergen on one such Ferry. The image below is a local service transporting passengers from Leirvik to other Islands in the vicinity.
